Dr. Henry Townsend’s primary goal with all patients is to provide excellent, comprehensive care. In order to do this, he has broad training, expertise, and interests in medicine including Internal Medicine (UTSW), Rheumatology (UAB) and Dermatology (Brigham & Women’s/Harvard).
He enjoys reading, attending conferences and lectures, and networking with peers in order to provide the best treatment options for patients.
He also collaborates with pharmaceutical and insurance companies via educational programs and advisory boards to improve patient access to therapies and clinical outcomes.
Dr. Townsend grew up and attended high school in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
He enrolled in the U. S. Army after high school and received the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Distinguished Service Award for his military service. He majored in Microbiology at the University of Alabama and as an undergraduate he was a Truman Scholar, USA Today Academic All-American, Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and as a medical student he received Excellence Awards in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry and the Willard Award as the Most Outstanding Overall Medical Student. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Tx.
His Rheumatology Fellowship was completed at UAB in Birmingham, AL. He was the inaugural fellow and graduate of the Dermatology-Rheumatology Fellowship program at Brigham and Women’s/Harvard Dermatology in Boston, MA.
While in Boston, he also completed the Value Based Medicine course at the Harvard Business School.
In his free time he enjoys being with friends, family(wife Stacy, son Elliot, Cavapoo Lily), traveling, investing, hot yoga, and attending sports events, especially Alabama Football games, Roll Tide!
