Staying cool and hydrated in extreme heat is vital to keeping yourself
healthy. While continuously drinking water during the day is a given, there
are other ways to sneak in extra hydration to your day:
These water-rich fruits are high in water content and flavor. Add them to
your salad or water for an extra boost of hydration:
Watermelon (92% water content)
Strawberries (91% water content)
Cantaloupe (90% water content)
Peaches (89% water content)
Oranges (88% water content)
Know your body’s quick cooling spots. For example, running cold water
over your wrists will help recirculate blood into the central part of your
body to cool down.
Pack essentials if you’re spending the day outside. Small fans and
cooling clothes for your neck will help you beat the heat.
When all else fails, head inside! Whether you’re visiting the local
library or movie theater, spending a few hours in the AC can help you
physically (and mentally!) cool off.
Apply sunscreen before an outdoor workout. Unprotected skin can burn in as
little as 15 minutes. Be sure to reapply if you are out in the sun for more
than 2 hours.
Wear loose clothing that allows for airflow. Moisture-wicking or natural
fabrics that allow sweat to evaporate more easily will feel cooler.

Add electrolytes to your water if outside more than one hour.
Bring an umbrella - this shields the body from the sun and allows for good
ventilation.
