These next few months are full of celebrations, family dinners, office
parties, and more. While we’re looking forward to the holiday festivities,
it’s important to stay healthy and avoid the cold/flu symptoms that can affect
your plans!
Make an appointment to get your flu shot. Health officials recommend that
everyone 6 months of age and older receive an influenza vaccination each and
every year.
Wash your hands often. The flu can be transferred by touching your mouth,
nose, or eyes after touching an object with the flu virus on it. Be sure to
wash your hands with warm water and soap or utilize hand sanitizer after
touching infected areas.
Dispose used tissues correctly. Be sure to put all used tissues in the trash
to avoid transmission of virus onto surfaces or to other people.
Stay home when you are sick. Stay home until at least 24 hours after your
fever resolves (without the use of fever-reducing medicines) or until your
symptoms have improved.
See a doctor if symptoms persist or get worse. People who have the flu can
get a secondary bacterial pneumonia, so it is important to see a doctor if
you are having difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain, coughing up
yellow or green phlegm, or experience worsening of a chronic medical
condition.
